What Is Flash and How Does It Work?

By OuterBox Web Design based in Akron / Cleveland Ohio.

Many times when visiting a website you will see Flash animation. Flash is a type of animation that requires the website visitor to have the Flash application, or plug-in, installed on their computer. These days (this article was written April, 2011) many website developers are moving towards Web 2.0 Javascript animation instead of using Flash. Most mobile devices do not support Flash, and with those devices becoming so popular (such as the iPhone and iPad), developers are using Javascript instead.

Flash video has become more and more popular over the years and is still prevalent on the web. Allowing video to stream, or download in real-time, often requires Flash or newer HTML 5 technology.
