What Is Flash and How Does It Work?

By OuterBox Web Design based in Akron / Cleveland Ohio.

Many times when visiting a website you will see Flash animation. Flash is a type of animation that requires the website visitor to have the Flash application, or plug-in, installed on their computer. These days many website developers are moving towards Web 2.0 Javascript animation instead of using Flash. Most mobile devices do not support Flash, and with those devices becoming so popular (such as the iPhone and iPad), developers are using Javascript instead. While Flash technology was extremly popular years ago, it's now often looked down on when used in certain ways.

Flash video has become less popular over the recent years as many mobile devices do not support Flash. Allowing video to stream, or download in real-time, can now be accomplished using newer HTML 5 technology. With newer browsers such as IE 9, FireFox and Chrome supporting HTML 5, more and more video is moving away from Flash.
