What Google Said:

Google Featured Snippet Result change

What This Means For You

If you have featured results, this is the new #1 position on Google and will no longer be considered "position 0". You may have held position zero along with position, 1, 2 or 3 before, but now you'll only have one of the results. This may result in a decrease in traffic as Google no longer is displaying your website twice on the first page, but the true affects are still unknown. The change will affect 100% of all search results worldwide.

Why Is Google Doing This?

Google is trying to eliminate what are essentially duplicate results from showing at the top of the search engines. They are always looking to improve user experience, and sending users to the same website within the first few clicks was something Google did not feel was a positive user experience for searchers. If you have a featured snippet result you may notice your standard organic result now at the top of page 2.

Where Do Featured Snippets Display?

Depending on the results, a featured snippet may display at the top of the page or over on the right side of the search results. See examples below.
