OuterBoxWebHealth

OuterBoxWebHealth is an automated tool run by OuterBox. It looks at a website the way a visitor’s browser would, measures how that site performs, and produces a report our team reads. If you found this page because you saw OuterBoxWebHealth in your server logs, this explains what it was doing.

How to identify it

Requests carry a user agent ending in this token:

(compatible; OuterBoxWebHealth/1.0; +https://www.outerboxdesign.com/bot)

The full strings, desktop and mobile:

Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; Intel Mac OS X 10_15_7) AppleWebKit/537.36 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/140.0.0.0 Safari/537.36 (compatible; OuterBoxWebHealth/1.0; +https://www.outerboxdesign.com/bot)

Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; CPU iPhone OS 17_0 like Mac OS X) AppleWebKit/605.1.15 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/17.0 Mobile/15E148 Safari/604.1 (compatible; OuterBoxWebHealth/1.0; +https://www.outerboxdesign.com/bot)

The browser portion of that string is real, on purpose. Many sites serve different markup to bots than to people, and the assessment is only worth running if it measures what an actual visitor sees. The token on the end is how you tell it apart from a person.

What it does

  • Requests your home page and up to four other pages, picked automatically to represent common templates such as category, product, cart, contact and service pages.
  • Loads those pages in a headless Chrome browser to capture screenshots at desktop and phone sizes, and to run Google Lighthouse performance tests.
  • Requests /robots.txt, /llms.txt and your XML sitemap.
  • Reads public DNS and TLS certificate records for the domain.

It runs once per assessment. It is not on a schedule, and it does not crawl your whole site.

What it does not do

  • It does not submit forms, create accounts, sign in, or try to reach anything behind a login.
  • It does not add items to carts or begin a checkout.
  • It does not collect personal information about your customers or visitors.
  • It does not keep your page content beyond the report it produces.

How to block it

Add this to your robots.txt:

User-agent: OuterBoxWebHealth
Disallow: /

The crawler checks robots.txt before it requests anything else, and a rule naming OuterBoxWebHealth stops it.

To block it at the edge instead, match OuterBoxWebHealth in the user agent header in your WAF or CDN rules. Blocking it changes nothing else about your site and has no effect on how search engines treat you.
