An Experienced SEO Consulting Team That Turns Audits Into Action

SEO consulting is what you buy when the decision matters more than the hours: what to do first, why that one, and whether last month's release did what it was meant to. Implementation stays on your side, whether that means your own developers and writers or the freelancers and vendors you already use. You get the diagnosis, the order and the review.

When SEO Consulting Services Are the Right Call

The decision shows up as a specific stuck feeling long before it shows up as a line in a budget. Six versions of it:

  • An audit landed months ago and nothing in it has shipped, because nobody could say which of the findings was worth taking a developer off the product roadmap for.
  • One person owns SEO here, and that person also owns email, the blog, and whatever leadership asked about on Monday, so search gets the hours that are left over.
  • You are the most senior search person in the building, and there is nobody to test a quarter’s plan against before you commit the team to it.
  • The specialists are all in place and the disagreement is between them: platform, content and analytics each have a defensible next move, and no one in the room is the tiebreaker.
  • A replatform, redesign or domain move is already on the calendar, and nothing has been written yet about what happens to URLs, redirects, templates and tracking when it lands.
  • The catalog is large enough that one template edit reaches every product page behind it, and nobody wants to be the person who guessed.

How an SEO Consultancy Should Work Alongside Your Team

You settle four things before any recommendation is worth writing. What the business is actually trying to sell more of, and to whom. What your site and your CMS can carry before new pages get stacked on top of them. Which parts of the work your team intends to keep, and which parts have no owner today. And what a decision has to look like before your developers, your writers or a vendor can act on it.

Those four answers become the standard you hold the engagement to. Diagnosis comes before a recommendation, and a recommendation that cannot be assigned to somebody is not finished. Results are read across several comparison periods rather than one, because a single good month is easy to select and hard to defend later, and an odd number gets checked against platform-side changes before it gets a strategic explanation. Where AI answer surfaces are concerned, what gets reported is visibility, mentions and citations, because those are the things that can be counted.

Your hardest calls need three kinds of input at once: whether a change is feasible in your stack, whether it fits how the audience searches, and what the data can prove either way. The person weighing them is someone you meet, not a name at the top of a status report. OuterBox has been in digital marketing since 2004, the search bench is 90+ in-house SEO specialists, and the client rating across FeaturedCustomers and Clutch is 4.8/5 from 867+ reviews. Where an engagement outgrows advice, you have access to the rest of the organic disciplines through the same team.

SEO Consulting Scope

What SEO Consulting Covers, and What Your Team Receives

Where the work is stuck decides how much of this you need first. Seven kinds of work make up a consulting engagement, and each ends in something a named person can pick up.

Diagnosis and audits

Your crawl returns a long list and no order to work through it. The job is to say which of them are load-bearing for this business right now, and to hand each one to the function that can fix it. What leaves the audit is a work queue with owners against it, not a document that gets filed.

SEO audit

Roadmap and prioritization

The backlog gets an order you can defend to whoever asks. Revenue exposure, ranking opportunity, implementation effort, dependencies between teams and the time Google needs to reflect a change all go into it, and the roadmap says out loud why this one comes before that one.

Technical direction

Your stack gets read as one system instead of a checklist: crawl paths, indexation controls, canonical handling, redirect maps, structured data, rendering and page speed. Findings meant for a developer arrive shaped like tickets, with the acceptance criteria written, because that is the form a sprint can take.

Technical SEO

Content and keyword direction

Writers get briefs, not keyword lists. Terms are sorted by intent, by the page type search results reward, and by what the team can produce in the next quarter. When two of your pages compete for the same intent, that overlap gets settled as a decision, by consolidating, re-scoping or reassigning, before either one gets more work.

SEO copywriting

Migration and redesign protection

A replatform makes its expensive mistakes before launch, in URL mapping, redirect planning, template decisions and what happens to tracking. Every redirect needs a relevant destination and every template needs its content to survive the move. Consulting joins at planning, sets the launch checks on robots, noindex and sitemaps, and reads indexation, crawl errors and rankings on the other side.

Website migration

Large catalogs and faceted sites

Parameters, facets and pagination decide what gets crawled at all, and one template governs a whole product class. The decisions here are which templates and crawl controls earn attention, how category and product pages divide the work, what happens to discontinued products, and which parts of the catalog can be left alone this quarter.

eCommerce SEO

Reporting and measurement review

Leadership gets an answer instead of a chart pack. The review covers which work shipped, which pages moved, how leads and revenue responded where the tracking can show it, and what the next quarter should change. Where attribution is thin, the gap gets named rather than smoothed over.

CORSA Performance

“I view the OuterBox team as an extension of my own marketing team. They allow me the ability to tell them what’s strategically important to us. They push us when they see opportunities, but at the end of the day, they are 100% focused on what we want to do to make our business work and do that to the best of their ability. That has allowed us to grow over the years.”

What To Consider When Choosing An SEO Consultant

Five questions separate one SEO consultant from another, and each is worth asking before anybody quotes you a scope.

Ask What They Would Tell You Not To Do

Anyone can produce a list of opportunities. The harder answer is which of your current commitments they would stop, and what they think you are over-investing in. A consultant who will only add to your backlog has not really taken a position, and the backlog was the problem you called about.

Read our case studies

Ask What the Audit Leaves Behind

A findings document and a work queue are different deliverables, and only one of them ships. Ask to see the shape of the handoff: whether developer findings arrive as tickets with acceptance criteria, whether writer findings arrive as briefs, and whether anything in it is addressed to the person who has to approve the budget.

Ask How Google's Own Surfaces Change the Order

Search results keep rearranging themselves, and what sits above an organic result now is not what sat there two years ago. Ask how that changes the priority list, what they are willing to say about AI answer surfaces, and what they measure there. Visibility, mentions and citations can be counted; a ranking inside an answer cannot.

How we approach Google search

Ask Who Reviews the Work After It Ships

Implementation drifts, and the place it drifts is not what a status update reports on. Find out who reads the release, who checks it against what was specified, and what happens when a developer had to solve it differently. Establish who owns that review before the engagement starts, because a quarter is a long time to discover nobody did.

Ask How You Will Know It Worked

Get the measurement conversation out of the way before the work starts, because some of it has to be set up in advance. Ask which leading indicators move first, which comparison windows they will show, and how they will separate the work from a seasonal swing or a platform-side change.

3 Simple Steps

How OuterBox's SEO Consulting Strategy Comes Together

Three moves, in this order.

Start from the decision, not the crawl

You get asked about the business before the site: what you are trying to sell more of, which pages and products carry that, what has already been tried, and what your leadership is asking for. A crawl run before those answers exist produces a list with no way to rank it. Two sites with identical technical findings get different first moves, and the business context is why.

Sequence by what your team can ship

A perfect roadmap your developers cannot get to is worth less than a good one they can. Sequencing accounts for who has capacity, which changes need another team first, and what the release calendar already holds. Each item leaves as something its owner can accept: a ticket with acceptance criteria, a brief with the intent and the audience written down, or a decision memo for the person approving the spend.

Review what shipped, then re-sequence

Your release is where a recommendation becomes worth something or does not. After each one the work is checked against what was specified, the leading indicators get read before traffic has had time to move, and the difference between the two feeds the next round of sequencing. That step is what keeps the following quarter's plan grounded in something tested.

SEO Consulting FAQs

These come up in first conversations, and the answers do not change when a salesperson is in the room.

An SEO consultant tells you why your site is not performing and what to do about it first, then turns that into instructions whoever implements can act on. What you receive is a prioritized roadmap, developer tickets, writer briefs, QA criteria and a reporting cadence, not the execution itself.

That scope covers technical SEO, content and keyword strategy, internal linking, link quality and outreach direction, migration planning, structured data and measurement. Who implements is a separate question from who decides.

Start with an SEO audit when you need to know what is wrong and can act on the answer. Choose SEO consulting when the diagnosis exists and the real problem is order, ownership and follow-through. Choose a managed program when the work needs hands as well as direction.

You can begin with one and move to another. Hiring the seniority permanently is a fourth option: it buys capacity you keep, after a search and onboarding, where consulting buys judgment you can use this quarter.

You keep implementation of the SEO recommendations, and that is the point of the model. Developers take the tickets, writers take the briefs, and whoever owns analytics takes the measurement setup. The consulting side runs diagnosis, sequencing, specification and review, and joins the sessions where trade-offs get settled.

Where a gap has no owner, OuterBox can staff that piece specifically rather than absorbing the whole program.

SEO consulting works for both. A sole marketing owner gets triage and cover: a short ordered list, briefs detailed enough to hand to a freelancer, and a second reading before the plan reaches leadership. A staffed team gets a tiebreaker when its specialists disagree.

For that staffed team the calls in question are the ones crossing platform, content and analytics at once, where each function has a defensible answer and none of them owns the decision.

Your website, your analytics data and your business profiles stay yours on a standard engagement, and administrative access to each one transfers when the work ends. Get that in writing before anyone builds inside an account you cannot reach yourself.

A rental-style website arrangement is the exception, and it is said up front: there the site itself stays with us. Ask which model you are being quoted before you sign.

SEO consulting changes decisions before it changes traffic. Prioritization and handoffs change what your team is working on as soon as the first sessions land, and how soon that happens depends on your scope and your team’s capacity. Search results move on their own timetable, and Google’s guidance is that some changes are reflected in hours while others take months.

That is why leading indicators go into the plan deliberately: indexation, crawl behavior and movement on targeted terms all read before traffic does.

SEO consulting is priced on the size of the site, the complexity of the decisions, how many working sessions you want, how much research each one needs, and whether implementation support is part of it. Those variables move the number more than anything else, which is why a published rate card would mislead you.

Our SEO pricing guide sets out the models and their ranges. We’ll give you a real number after a strategy conversation, not a generic package price.
